COMMUNITY HEALTH

COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMME

The Trust, together with its medical health professionals partners led by Dr Makobe-Chiloane who volunteers their services to the trust annually, spear headed the programme DOE EC oral health outreach programme which started in the Eastern Cape Province in 2019 and now expanding through our the country. The Trust through this programme noted that some individuals with disabilities may not wholly understand or appreciate the importance of keeping a healthy mouth. This lack of appreciation is not only attributed to persons with disabilities, but many community members, regardless of status, race, education and creed, do not wholly appreciate the importance of keeping a healthy mouth

Our team of volunteers prepared and ready to offer free dental and oral health care services to our community.

The programme provided services to 820 beneficiaries.

The programme was also implemented with schools where 935 learners participated in the programme. Out of the 935 screened learners, only 165 learners had a healthy mouth with no dental diseases. A total of 522 needed various types of urgent dental treatment, 156 presented with missing teeth, 450 learners needed Scale and Polish (teeth cleaning), a total of 148 learners were recommended for fissure sealants and 108 learners had malocclusion (crowding) requiring Orthodontic treatment.
